Reiki, Real or Mystical Hoo-Haa?

As a Usui Shiki Ryoho Master it doesn't really bother me that much but for someone who has only recently discovered Reiki it is often an issue. No wonder either with so many different "brands" of Reiki out there. Last time I counted I got to 67 and decided enough was enough.
So, back to the question. Is it real, new age mystical hoo-haa or a placebo? Does it matter? It could be any one or all three even. The thing is....no-one knows and that's the truth. What I and countless other practitioners Do know is this.
Reiki Works. Hands On treatments and Distance, it doesn't matter, they are both very effective. I have assisted others to heal themselves with Reiki at a distance for years. Hmm you're re-reading that last bit aren't you? " assisted others to heal themselves", well yeah, that's what I do. That's what they do. They sit down, focus on the Reiki and heal. I'm not some kind of Guru Healer you know, I just plug into the Reiki, focus on where it has to go, intend it to assist the recipient to heal and that's it. It's up to the recipient than to intend to heal. If they don't then they probably won't get any better. The ball is in their court.

Does that sound harsh to you? It probably does but you see, I don't do the mystical rubbish and make out there is some kind of magic in there. That really is all there is to it.
Yes I know at Levels 2 & 3 you use symbols etc. But surely that just proves what I've just said? At Level 1 you can give hands-on treatments with no knowledge of the symbols and their purpose. So why the need?
Because Reiki is a Lifestyle in it's own right, it can become a very deep spiritual experience and as with everything else, you need tools to enable you to progress and focus more clearly. The symbols give your brain something to focus upon as do the rituals you will probably develop unconsciously over time and practice before you give or receive Reiki. You may even have a Master who shares her/his own rituals with you. This where Reiki becomes very personalised and the reason there are so many variations. Masters find their own methods by trial and error, develop them and then decide to introduce their own version of Reiki. Essentially there is nothing wrong with that.
Is Reiki real or no better than a placebo? You do realise why doctors use placebos? It's to see if their drug trials are working because the drug is working or whether people are getting better because the think they are getting the drug.
Doctors are therefore telling every single one of us that it is possible to think yourself well. A concept which has been around for how many thousands of years? Right now it is belittled because it has been labelled with the New Age tag which is sad. If Reiki works as a placebo....who cares! If it works, do it, in my very humble opinion!
Sooo, back to the original question for the second time.
Is Reiki real? It is for me and for you, it's as real as you intend it to be.
Mystical New Age Hoo-Haa? That depends upon who's site and method you come across. It's not at mine. :)
A Placebo? I don't give a monkeys, frankly. As I said before, if it works it works. Just...please don't go all mystical on me? ;)
